Every city should aspire to create great pedestrian experiences that create great urban space. So, how is a great pedestrian experience created in Dubai given the heat and lack of street-level pedestrian connections? What can we do to mitigate environmental factors and create great outdoor environments that enhance the pedestrian experience? We will walk through a design scheme that addresses these issues in virtual reality as an example of the integration of VR technology in the design process. The proposed development features three mixed-use towers and utilizes pedestrian corridors where people can truly enjoy the outdoors.
This presentation demonstrates how clients can understand the scale of a tower in its environment and be reassured that an otherwise unlikely concept could be a lucrative solution for their site. This tech-forward approach allows the client and design team to experience their project earlier in the process creating a constructive dialogue during the design phases. While demonstrating the latest VR capabilities, the presentation fosters an open conversation about the benefits and drawbacks of day-to-day use of this technology. Can VR create a better experience? This presentation demonstrates that the state-of-the-art process creates a framework for an unprecedented level of communication, offering clients proof-at-concept at early stages of the project, leading to better built pedestrian experiences.
