One Park Drive will be the centerpiece of Wood Wharf, an 80-hectare urban mixed-use regeneration scheme reshaping London’s world-famous business district, Canary Wharf. Taking advantage of its unique location on London’s docklands, the 210-meter-tall tower will be an exciting new addition to Canary Wharf’s skyline, further enhancing the polycentric character of London, as well as its status as a global city.

This presentation discusses the design approach adopted on this 57-story residential tower, including its evolution from Wood Wharf’s master plan to the original concept, and to its construction now on site. Subjects range from the merits of real-time parametric models, intertwining the tower’s distinctive envelope and the layout efficiency of each of the 468 apartments with the structural performance of the different stability systems assessed; understanding the impact of a new tall building in the micro-climate of the adjacent area, most of it yet to be created, through the use of computational dynamic fluid analysis; and the establishment of new, undeveloped land, so scarcely available in a global city like London. It proposes a set of answers to the question of how to create more habitable space on ever-decreasing site footprints.
