Around the world, cities have sought after and vied for the Olympics and expositions, investing years and millions of dollars in the pursuit and construction of the projects. In recent years, these practices have been criticized as wasteful and having little benefit for the cities in which they are built, especially after the event has taken place. As a result, cities are now making a concerted effort to “leave a legacy” of built urban habitat on former Expo and Olympics sites that benefits citizens longer-term. Dubai has an elaborate plan for the redevelopment of the Expo 2020 site into District 2020, a world-class, smart-technology-enabled, integrated community for innovation. This program explores Dubai’s plans in detail, and features presentations from the people behind Olympics and Expo regeneration projects from around the world.
